Gales and heavy rain swept the North East last night, causing transport problems. At Newcastle Airport arrivals and departures were affected by the high winds.

Flights to Aberdeen and Amsterdam were cancelled and dozens of others were delayed by up to two hours. All flights are expected to be unaffected this morning.
