Airport picks up award

Newcastle Airport has been named Company of the Year at the Tyneside and Northumberland heat of the North East Business Awards. The airport fought off competition from Merit Process Engineering and Northumbria University to land the coveted award.
The prize caps a big year for the airport, which saw passenger numbers rise to a record 5.7 million despite a volatile travel market. Graeme Mason, head corporate affairs at the airport, said: 'The aviation industry is an amazing industry to work in. It’s extremely volatile, but generates passion among the people working there. I would like to dedicate the award to all of those that work at Newcastle Airport.'
