Taxi driver banned after 96mph airport fare

A taxi driver who drove at 96mph when taking a fare to Newcastle Airport could have caused a tragedy, a council licensing chief has said.
Michael James Thompson, 33, of South Denton, was given 6 penalty points and a 12 week suspended jail sentence when he appeared in court this week. He was also had his taxi operating licence withdrawn.
