Weapons haul found after airport arrests
03.02.07
A number of illegal weapons were recovered after a police raid at Newcastle Airport. The discovery came after police swooped on four men, all with warrants outstanding for their arrest, as they flew back in to the airport from a trip to Amsterdam.
Officers arrested the men, all in their 20s, as soon as the plane touched down. During a search of their luggage, a number of extendable batons and knuckledusters were found. It is thought the batons are of a type which cannot be bought legally in the UK.
Warrants had been issued for the arrest of the four men - three who come from the East Shields area. One was wanted for possession of a controlled substance, two were suspected of causing criminal damage, and the fourth had an outstanding court warrant for his arrest.
