Teenager charged over laser incident

A teenager has been charged over incidents where a laser was shone at a police helicopter and the cockpit of a passenger plane carrying over 220 people.
The related incidents happened on September 15. First to be targeted was a Jet2 plane preparing to land at Newcastle Airport from Crete. Then, when a police helicopter was sent to investigate, it too was targeted with the laser.
A 17-year-old from Pelton Fell has been charged with two counts of endangering aircraft. He will appear at Consett Magistrates' Court on November 12.
