IT company Waterstons has been selected as North of England entrant in an excellence awards scheme, for the work it is carrying out at Newcastle Airport. The County Durham based company has been short listed for the best small business IT strategy accolade in Computing magazine's Awards for Excellence, for its upgrade of the airport's information systems.
Waterstons devised a 4 year IT strategy plan for Newcastle Airport in 2003, to support its planned growth. This has seen the firm project manage and implement technologies including a new telephony system with interactive voice recognition, an upgrade to the flight information system and a new aircraft stand planning tool to manage aircraft movement on the ground.
Newcastle Airport's IT manager, Darren Kelly, said: 'The project has been a huge success. The achievement is a testament to the months of planning and preparation, training and testing, as well as gaining user buy-in from the departments affected by the changes.'
