Emirates celebrate 100,000th passenger

Emirates has reached a new milestone, after carrying the 100,000th passenger on its daily route between Newcastle Airport and Dubai. The service was only launched just over 9 months ago on September 1st 2007.
The 100,000th passenger on the service was Michael Reay, a director for a company that manufactures food supplements and health care products for horses. He uses the flights to travel to the United Arab Emirates on business and has already flown over 100,000 miles with Emirates since the service started. He received two return economy class tickets on the route.
Laurie Berryman, manager of Emirates UK, said: ‘We are thrilled to have reached this milestone so quickly, and several weeks ahead of our forecast. The demand has exceeded our expectations. Travellers from the region are clearly taking advantage of our network to fly to Dubai and beyond.’
In addition to flights to the popular Emirate, the route gives travellers from the north-east the opportunity to connect to destinations including Bangkok, Sydney, Perth and the Maldives via the airline's Dubai hub.
