Emirates branded air traffic tower opens

Dubai-based airline Emirates has sponsored Britain's newest air traffic control centre at Newcastle Airport. The airline launched a daily service between Newcastle on Dubai last Saturday.
The £8.2 million landmark tower bearing the airline's logo is on the north side of the airport's airfield, at the runway's midpoint. Named the Newcastle Emirates Tower, it is one of the most technologically advanced control towers in the UK. It replaces the previous tower which served passengers for 40 years, which will remain as a standby facility.
The building, standing at 147ft (45m) tall, is more than twice the height of the Angel of the North. It has been designed with a twisting latticework structure and concave sides, and offers air traffic controllers 360 degree views of Newcastle, the Tyne Valley, Northumberland and the coast.
It was unveiled by the Minister for the North East, Nick Brown, and Tim Clark, the president of the Emirates Airline, this afternoon. Mr. Clark said 'Our sponsorship of this new tower reflects the close co-operation we have enjoyed with Newcastle Airport in the successful launch of our daily service between Newcastle and Dubai.'
'This is another first for Emirates and the tower reflects our own vision - modern, innovative, and designed with the customer in mind.'
