Hoax bomb notes on Newcastle bound holiday flight

A flight heading to Newcastle Airport flew across the Atlantic despite a passenger finding a note claiming there was a bomb on board. The hand-written note was found in a toilet 20 minutes into the flight from the Dominican Republic.
After two more notes were discovered, the pilot left the cockpit to see for himself. However, he decided the notes were a hoax and continued with the flight rather than diverting to the nearest airport.
The Thomsonfly flight TOM2592 from Punta Cana landed at Newcastle Airport on time in the early hours of Monday morning. Emergency services were scrambled to the runway to await the plane's arrival. They stood down after police carried out a search of the aircraft after passengers had disembarked.
A spokeswoman for Thomsonfly confirmed there had been a ‘security incident’ and said the matter was now in the hands of the police. Northumbria Police said 3 notes handwritten on paper towels had been found and that they had ‘all the hallmarks of a hoax’.
