Drug smuggler caught at airport

A German man has appeared in court after trying to smuggle a large stash of cocaine into the North East, the Journal reports. Sascha Zimmermann, 29, was stopped at Newcastle Airport on Sunday evening. They seized his luggage and a search revealed two bags inside lined with up to 5 kgs of the Class A drug with a street value of up to £250,000.
Mr Zimmermann, a German who has previously lived in Amsterdam, had landed at Newcastle Airport after boarding a flight in Paris. He has been charged with being involved in the importation of illegal drugs.
