Manx2 to pick up IOM route
09.08.09
Manx2 will launch a limited service between the Isle of Man and Newcastle Airport after Eastern Airways withdrew from the route. The Manx-based company will step in and run services from August 27 on what it said was a ‘key island air link’.
Noel Hayes, Manx2 chairman, said: ‘The knock-on effect of losing a route can be severe on Manx businesses, tourism and leisure travel. We will use the next few weeks to actively consult with all stakeholders, including customers on the route, and we'll be working to put together a plan for the long term sustainable development of this route.'
Dave Laws, chief executive of Newcastle Airport, said: ‘It is especially important during a period of recession that we look to retain and enhance the region's connectivity to destinations such as this. We will be working closely with Manx2 to ensure this route is a long-term success.’
