Airport plots US flights
09.09.07
Newcastle Airport bosses have revealed plans to land its first non-stop flight to the United States. They have revealed that the airport is in discussions with a number of airlines to make the US its second long-haul destination following the launch of Emirates' flights to Dubai last weekend.
A spokesperson said: 'Our focus is now firmly set on securing further long-haul services with a priority a direct service to the US. Discussions have been ongoing for some time. We are hopeful that the US service will be announced soon.'
Plans for a direct US flight come 2 years after American Airlines cancelled its scheduled Newcastle to New York route before it took off, as it scrapped expansion plans due to soaring fuel costs.
