Eastern launch Norwegian route
11.11.07
Eastern Airways launches its first service to Norway from Newcastle Airport tomorrow. The independent airline will launch flights to Stavanger via Aberdeen, timed so that travellers could make a day return trip to the Norwegian city should they choose.
The flights will operate each weekday from Newcastle to Stavanger via Aberdeen using a 50 seater Saab 2000 aircraft. They depart Newcastle at 07:10, arriving in Stavanger at 10:50. From Stavanger, the flights leave at 18:05, landing in Newcastle at 19:55 (all times local).
Norway is the world's third largest exporter of oil and most major energy companies have a base in Stavanger, its oil capital. As European Capital of Culture 2008, the region is also ideal for tourists with its unforgettable fjords and mountains.
With more domestic flights from Newcastle than any other airline, the new route will also increase Eastern's seat capacity between the airport and Aberdeen, with an additional 840 seats a month due to the introduction of the bigger planes on the route.
