Airport to give 'full account' of former boss departure

Newcastle Airport's new boss has said in an interview that, when the time comes, he will give a full account of events surrounding the departure of his predecessor. In March, the airport suspended John Parkin as its chief executive and it is currently undertaking a 'robust legal action' in connection with a bonus of almost £6m he was set to receive. Mr Parkin resigned in May and is now the chief executive at Leeds Bradford Airport.
In the Newcastle Journal newspaper on Monday David Laws, the new boss at Newcastle Airport, also speaks of hopes for the future, including a desire to establish a scheduled daily flight to the US. The 50-year-old, who worked his way to the top job after starting at the airport 28 years ago as a fireman, says his new role is crucial to the regeneration of the region.
He says: 'Newcastle Airport is at the heart of the region. I want to make the airport into a regional asset that every one of us in the North-East can be proud of.' He also reveals his admiration for Sir Alan Sugar and Sir Bobby Robson, and how his son tells people: 'My daddy works in the sky.'
