Record year for Lufthansa
16.02.08
Lufthansa had a record-breaking year for passengers travelling from Newcastle Airport. More than 20,000 people flew with the airline from the North East in 2007, up almost 25% on the year before.
The results were so good that the airline's manager for the UK, Marianne Sammann, says that Lufthansa is considering further developing its presence in Newcastle. She said: 'We doubled the number of flights to Dusseldorf from Newcastle Airport in the autumn last year and we already see a difference.'
'It is a very good base for future growth. We have to see how things progress in the summer but it looks optimistic. We are looking to create links through Dusseldorf to fly to destinations all over the world.'
The number of people travelling from Newcastle with Lufthansa has increased at around four times the airline’s average increase for the year. Ms Sammann said: 'Our passenger growth out of Newcastle has been exceptional for the past two years. It proves huge numbers of travellers still want the added value they receive from a full service airline.'
