Flight punctuality improves

Flight delays for passengers at Newcastle Airport fell in the final 3 months of 2007. Data released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) showed that 79% of flights were on time, a 3% improvement on the same period 12 months previously. The airport also enjoyed a two-minute reduction in the average length of time flights were delayed, from 14 minutes to 12 minutes.
But whilst the average length of schedule flights delayed fell, delays on charter flights increased. The proportion of chartered flights on time was 76%, down from 80% a year earlier. The average delay of chartered flights from the airport also jumped by 2 minutes in 12 months. However, charter flights operating from the hub account for just 10% of flights.
