Customs officers at Newcastle Airport have given more details on the £300,000 stash of cocaine – the second major drugs haul on planes in a week - found last week. The discovery was made via a raid on a plane arriving on Tyneside on the same African route as £150,000 of the Class A drug was recovered last week.
On Thursday at the terminal when a passenger arrived from Cameroon via Paris, Customs officers found 4 kilos of cocaine and have charged Nigerian national Lawrence Izundu with attempting to smuggle a class A drug into the UK. He appeared in Newcastle Magistrates Court last week where he was remanded in custody.
Also last week customs officials found £150,000 of cocaine on a flight carried by a passenger arriving on another flight into Newcastle on the same route – from Cameroon via Paris. Two Nigerian nationals were charged following that discovery of 2 kilos of the Class A drug.
