New York flight talks next month
23.08.11
Newcastle Airport managers are to fly to the US next month for fresh talks on the possibility of securing direct flights to New York, the Journal reports. Chief executive David Laws believes he can secure a scheduled transatlantic service from Newcastle, after the success of Emirates’ daily flights to Dubai.
In an interview with the Journal, Mr Laws reveals that talks with the unnamed American airline are scheduled for next month. He is optimistic that a deal can be done – despite the recent decision by Continental Airlines to axe its service from Bristol to New York, the high price of oil and uncertainty surrounding the Government’s plans for Air Passenger Duty making an economic case for the route difficult.
