Police target illegal parking

The police are to clamp down on poor parking in Ponteland following complaints of illegal parking by drivers waiting to pick up people from Newcastle Airport.
Parish member Alan Chilton told fellow councillors he had raised the issue of indiscriminate parking throughout the village at a meeting of the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership. He said: 'I mentioned again the issue of parking in and around Ponteland, particularly around Cheviot View, and the police said they will keep a close eye on it.'
'There is also the illegal parking at Prestwick Road End and although they have now put barriers up they are useless. There are gaps between them and people are still parking there, but hopefully we will now get a bit more action in terms of police stopping and telling people they are breaking the law and taking it further if necessary.'
