£3.2m extension project to launch next month

Work is to start next month on the main part of a £3.2m extension at Newcastle Airport. The project, which will see a new three-storey extension to the terminal, creating an extra 5,242-sq ft of security search space, will improve passenger journeys through the airport.
When operational it will provide up to 10 lanes to screen hand luggage prior to entry to the departure lounge, a 100% increase from 5 lanes at present. The airport’s immigration arrivals area is also being redeveloped to offer a better journey for arriving passengers. The project is being carried out in phases to ensure minimum disruption to passengers and is scheduled for completion by the spring.
