KLM celebrate 25 years at Newcastle
31.10.09
KLM will celebrate its silver anniversary at Newcastle Airport next week. Its service to Amsterdam Schiphol started in the winter of 1984 using Fokker F28 aircraft. Today KLM, and sister airline Air France, offer North East travellers a choice of up to six daily flights to their hub airports in Amsterdam and Paris, connecting the North East to over 650 destinations worldwide. A champagne celebration is being hosted by KLM at the Hilton Gateshead Hotel on November 5 for agents and the local business community.
Pieter Elbers, Senior Vice President Network & Alliances, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, said: ‘It is a fantastic milestone for KLM. It clearly highlights the ongoing demand and support from business and leisure travellers in the North East for a global travel service from the convenience of their local airport.’
David Laws, Chief Executive of Newcastle Airport said, ‘This is a very prestigious event for both airport and the airline. The 25 years since this airline first touched down at Newcastle are a testament to our great working relationship and partnership with KLM. Amsterdam opens up the world from our region, and we look forward to many more years of working together and growing our respective businesses.’
